Schola Rosa: A Tool for Catholic Homeschool Community & Solidarity
Why on earth did my husband and I begin Schola Rosa? In the very beginning, we created Schola Rosa for our own Catholic community, so our children and ourselves could foster and experience Catholic solidarity. We desired to share our talents and to have others share their talents with us. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church says in Paragraph 1937: “
These differences belong to God’s plan, who wills that each receive what he needs from others, and that those endowed with particular “talents” share the benefits with those who need them. These differences encourage and often oblige persons to practice generosity, kindness, and sharing of goods; they foster the mutual enrichment of cultures…”
And to quote St. Catherine of Sienna, “I distribute the virtues quite diversely; I do not give all of them to each person, but some to one, some to others. . . . I shall give principally charity to one; justice to another; humility to this one, a living faith to that one. . . . And so I have given many gifts and graces, both spiritual and temporal, with such diversity that I have not given everything to one single person, so that you may be constrained to practice charity towards one another. . . . I have willed that one should need another and that all should be my ministers in distributing the graces and gifts they have received from me.”
This was our primary vision for Schola Rosa: Co-op & Home Curriculum — that it would be a tool for families with diverse talents and means to come together and share those differences in Charity. We pray that you, too, have this vision for the year. Community is never a completely easy task, for then why would the Lord had said Do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Or even What you do for the least of these, you do also for me? Why make something easy a commandment? We pray for all of our Co-op and Just-Home families as you begin this year, and we will continue to pray for your fortitude in charity as you work with others and your own children.
