Schola Rosa Latin & Greek
Overview
Schola Rosa's Latin & Greek sequence was designed to accommodate large family life as well as students flowing in and out of a co-op by providing access to all levels at once. This allows families and co-ops to choose the level most appropriate for students. The ideal sequence of courses would be to begin as a Kindergartener and go through the program in order of sequence as shown in the chart below. Co-ops and families who have older students who have not completed earlier components are encouraged to complete those components before continuing to the next level.

Details of Latin & Greek Program:
Hymns and Prayers: In each cycle of the Schola Rosa Home Curriculum you will find six Latin (or Greek) hymns and the Latin Parts of the Mass. The memorization of hymns not only teaches students Latin vocabulary, but also opens the doors to deeply rich Catholic Tradition and Culture that has stood the trials of time. We believe that if students are introduced to language and memorize much of it at an early age, then they have a storehouse of grammatical memory at their fingertips when they begin a formal study!
English from the Roots Up for 2nd-3rd Grade: In Cycle 1 students are introduced the Greek and Latin roots as a preparation for the learning of either Greek or Latin. That said, even if your student has begun learning Greek or Latin in a previous cycle, this book is sure to help reinforce vocabulary learned previously and will also help with English spelling. The book is recommended for 2nd-12th grades and is a wonderful way to introduce language and the incorporation of roots. Learning to recognize roots helps to build reading and pronunciation confidence as well. We recommend the whole family learn along with students.
Little Latin Readers, Primers A and B for 2nd – 3rd Grade: These easy-to-follow readers are a gentle introduction to the Latin language and its grammar. Just like your child learned to read one word at a time sitting beside you on the couch or at the dinner table, you will find a similar approach in these readers. Be ready to sit and learn together! They can be purchased from Little Latin Readers for a group discount.
Little Latin Readers, Level 1-2 for 4th-6th Grade: These easy-to-follow readers are a gentle introduction to the Latin language and its grammar. Just like your child learned to read one word at a time sitting beside you on the couch or at the dinner table, you will find a similar approach in these readers. Be ready to sit and learn together! Schola Rosa Legamus Latinam for 4th-6th Grade: These lessons were written by T. Matthew Meyer as an introduction to reading original Latin, which focuses on the sheer joy of reading Latin either as a beginner or intermediate learner. In addition, this is a great preparatory series for students preparing for the 7th Grade Legamus Latinam course.
Greek Primer (2nd-3rd Grade) ~ Developed by R.A.S. and provided in the suite, this primer introduces students to the Greek alphabet and to its pronunciation. In addition, students will learn to read and write basic sentences in Greek!
Greek Reading Lessons (4th-6th Grade) ~ Similar to the Latin Lessons of Cycle II, these lessons are meant to focus more on the joy of reading Greek for either the beginner or the intermediate learner. Students learn more about Greek grammar and how to recognize basic noun and verb endings and their functions.
